Hundreds of Students Participate in 'Role Model' Inspired Halloween Event in Newark

Newark

Students from KIPP Seek Academy forwent traditional Halloween costumes and attended school dressed in outfits that represent their hopes and dreams for their future entitled “Picture Me Tomorrow.”

According to school officials, students participated in a parade, showed off their “costumes,” dressed as role models in the professions they aspire. "We had a parade of future doctors, teachers, scientists, CEO’s, firemen, policewomen, artists, chefs and more" according to Kipp Seek Academy officials.

The program, which started as a partnership between George Washington Carver Elementary School, Bruce Street School, and KIPP New Jersey, has been held every year for nearly ten years.

After the parade, students took part in “Trunk or Treat,” where they walked through the schools’ parking lots, stopping at cars decorated by staff from all three schools.

Officials say the program is an innovative, safe alternative to the traditional Halloween holiday.

"We had 1100+ students participate in today’s festivities," school officials said.

We hope all the staff and students had a wonderul Halloween.
